My first question would be, how well do you know this body shop? Have they explained this repair to you in detail? Do you feel that they are putting your best interests first? I am hoping that they prepared a thorough estimate and that you fully understand the repair process. Sometimes, shops will cut corners and not perform certain repair operations that can not only hide damage, but jepordize the safety of your vehicle. All in order to take advantage of you and your money by saving the vehicle from totalling. I am not saying that is what is happening in your case, just wanting you to be careful.

Now for the insurance. I have seen some company's adjusters over write estimates on vehicles that end up totalled. Most of the time it's lack of knowledge on the part of the appraiser, but sometimes it's evident that the estimate was just thrown together to total the vehicle. As you said, I have seen parts selected that were not needed and alternative repair methods ignored on purpose. If you really feel that the shop is on your side and working with you, the you just need to pressure the insurance company. You may also consider getting another estimate from another shop. If you get the same result, that help you. If that doesn't work, hire an independent adjuster to write an estimate and he can work on your behalf with the insurer to get this resolved.

we noticed that the adjusters had put parts that were no need of replacement into the claim and also they over priced alot of the parts and labor. my body shop sent the insurance their estimate which is $2,600 less still doesn't want to pay for repairs even though it keeps me well under the 70% of my car value.

There is another possible explaination, I've run into my self...all carriers have certain guidelines....as an example..the carrier i work for will NOT write used suspension/steering parts..now I can get a used knee assy for say 100-200 bucks..but to piece it together writing only new oem parts can cost 1k or better, and has totaled some cars...same with some 'repair vs replace' decisions..I can only do the most minor repair to the very end of a rebar..and I mean VERY minor superfical work only...otherwise it HAS to be replaced...they cannot and will not change those guidelines...like I tell people all the time, 'I've got to write to repair your car a "certain" way..it's your car YOU can fix it however you want..with bubble gum if you'd like'' ....in these cases (assuming the shop is worth a crap)...you should owner retain the vehicle and have the shop repair it per their sheet...sounds like you'll have more than enough money to fix it..'their way' remember though...there are reasons behind a lot of these (not all  ) company guidelines...and check this shop out thoroughly

Can't win for losing. How many post have stated that insurance companies are lowballing repair estimates. Now this one is over estimating.

My car was stolen and the police found it. They say it was alittle fire damage and strip off the engine a little but whatever they did the car not starting up now. How likely is the insurance going to considered this a total lose
