Track Event- Accident. I was at a track event and went off the track into a tire wall - damage was to my bumper cover (plastic), fender, door and quarter panel. Car drives fine - just cosmetic. I am with state farm for 15 years without a claim - I know there is more than my 500 deductible -more like 3K-5K of damage possibly. How should I approach this to my agent? I heard that NC insurance will cover this because NC is the ONLY state that covers accidents at track events that are NOT competition or timed events.

Has nothing to do with the state, it's how the policy reads. I've seen some that exclude coverage for an organized racing event. I think what you were doing pretty much qualifies as this. Most have exclusion that are similar. Report the claim and wait to see what the carrier says.

I'm with tcope. There are certain activities you simply can't do and expect any bad results to be covered. There will be a section in your policy outlining exclusions.

I'd call my agent. If he/she says it isn't covered at all, I wouldn't even file the claim.

If this were the case wouldn't alot of insurance companies be taking an extremely high risk to insure vehicles that get damaged like this? I would think it wouldn't be covered.

Well all I can say is I've NEVER seen an auto policy that did not exclude this...but never saw a NC policy either...turn it in, and good luck...also if you don't mind let us know for future reference..

I am thinking more than good luck is needed here. My brother races and I have seen the condition a vechile on the track looks like when the checkered flag is thrown...not too good.

We repaired a 911 one time that the owner had crashed on a track. He was taking a Porsche driving class. His insurer covered it.

Why do people take driving classes? Does it lower your insurance if you do? Hmmm I can think of at least a few paople who could use it.

Hey Firey...these classes are for advanced driving techniques. There is something called Auto-cross. People take their cars (usually sports cars) on a "track" made specially for it. Tight curves, straights, etc. Goal is to be a better driver and lower your "time."

Cool. My brother does some racing on a area track but nothing professionally. I enjoy watching him. It would be a pretty cool course to take. I see where there are also winter driving courses and that is something I wouldn't mind doing but they are never offered in our area. (Nowhereville)
