Somebody made a dent and a deep scratch in my parked car, I dont know who did it...I noticed it after 2 days. I reported it to my insurance thinking it wud come under comrehensive(100$ deductible), but they wanted to go under uninsured motorist collision (250$ deductible). Can I ask them to do under comprehensive?!am I eligible for it?
I have 3 estimates for the damage
Dealer 1 Estimate: 731$ (Initial quote)
Dealer 2 Estimate: 1672$
Insurance Estimate: 936$- 250$ deductible= 686$
If I get a check for 936$ and get that work done from dealer 1 (731$), if dealer 1 claims there are more damages to the car, will it end up in me paying for the rest of the damage or can I again go back to insurance and ask them to deal with dealer 1?!
Thanks for your answers |

| If you don't know who hit you. What hit you. Than the insurance company shouldn"t tell you it's a Uninsured Motortist claim. They can't prove who ever hit you was insured at the time, or not. Or if it was a car that even hit you. |

| Reguarding the Actual Damage issue. If there is more damage found to your vehicle, after the inital Appraisal. The Insurance company will have a Supplemental Appraisal done by the adjuster. The additional damage amount should be sent to you or the body shop to peform the additional repairs. |

No such thing as uninsured motorist collision. It's either collision or uninsured motorist property damage.
In either case, if it was another vehicle that caused the dent then it's collision or UMPD. If it was some type of vandalism or an object fell on the vehicle then it's comprehensive coverage.
The insurance company is going to look at the location of the dent as well as it's size and shape to determine what caused it.
A few things come to mind... door dent (collision), dent from a shopping cart (collision), dent from a bat or other hand held object (comprehensive), large rock... doubtful (comprehensive).

| It is Uninsured Motorist Coverage, not Uninsured Anything or Anybody coverage.hence the term Uninsured]Motorist. |

Hey Velu,

Are you sure that it happened when the car was parked? I'm asking this since you went unaware of the damage for 2 days.
Can it be possible that you were hit during traffic and might not realize? |

I got your point. But how's this supplemental appraisal different from the initial one?
Does it involve another adjuster?

| Usually either comp or UMPD won't affect rates unless there are multiple claims within a short amount of time. |

Okay Velu, thanks for clarifying it.
| Quote: | | If I go by comprehensive, it will affect my claims history and if I go by uninsured motorist coverage it wont! |
Well, all claims that you would made would go into the CLUE report. Even enquiries made with the insurer might show up in your claim history as well. But as Tcope has said collision/comprehensive or UMPD won't affect your premium rate.
By the way, has the insurer sent out the appraiser to look at the dent?
As someone has mentioned earlier an adjuster would be able to determine what might have caused the damage. If it has been caused by another vehicle, you may have to file it under UMPD. But if it suggests vandalism, then you need to file under comprehensive.
| Quote: | | if dealer 1 claims there are more damages to the car, will it end up in me paying for the rest of the damage |
Why do you suspect that there would be more damages to the vehicle then the one you are filing the claim for? Are there unrepaired prior damages to the car? |

| Thanks! I suspect more damages because, dealer 2 quoted 1672$ more than double that of dealer 1. Dealer 2 was saying there are some clips, pins and althose..once removed it cant be used. Dealer 1 didnt say anysuch things, thats why wondering if the damages are more will I have to pay that extra cost |

Hi Velu.

What does the appraiser say about it? What is his estimation?
Was the first dealer recommended to you by the insurance company? |

Hi Velu,

Do you have collision coverage? What is it deductible?
I think deductible is your main concern regarding filing under UMPD. Does your collsion coverage has lower deductible than UMPD? |
