Somebody made a dent and a deep scratch in my parked car, I dont know who did it...I noticed it after 2 days. I reported it to my insurance thinking it wud come under comrehensive(100$ deductible), but they wanted to go under uninsured motorist collision (250$ deductible). Can I ask them to do under comprehensive?!am I eligible for it?

I have 3 estimates for the damage
Dealer 1 Estimate: 731$ (Initial quote)
Dealer 2 Estimate: 1672$
Insurance Estimate: 936$- 250$ deductible= 686$
If I get a check for 936$ and get that work done from dealer 1 (731$), if dealer 1 claims there are more damages to the car, will it end up in me paying for the rest of the damage or can I again go back to insurance and ask them to deal with dealer 1?!
Thanks for your answers

Thanks! I suspect more damages because, dealer 2 quoted 1672$ more than double that of dealer 1. Dealer 2 was saying there are some clips, pins and althose..once removed it cant be used. Dealer 1 didnt say anysuch things, thats why wondering if the damages are more will I have to pay that extra cost

What does the appraiser say about it? What is his estimation?

Was the first dealer recommended to you by the insurance company?

Hi Velu,

The adjuster said its ump

Do you have collision coverage? What is it deductible?

I think deductible is your main concern regarding filing under UMPD. Does your collsion coverage has lower deductible than UMPD?

Deductibles
Collision: 500
umpd: 250
comprehensive: 100

I have 3 estimates for the damage
Dealer 1 Estimate: 731$
Dealer 2 Estimate: 1672$
Appraiser Estimate: 936$- 250$ deductible= 686$

Appraiser said I can take my car anywhere i want to for the repair.

I was wondering if the dent is happened when the other car door banged in to my door, will it be comprehensive?!
Thx

Nope, it'd still come under collision. Following are the few causes that are covered under comprehemsive.

  • Damages caused by fire, hail storm
  • Damages from flood and other natural disasters
  • Damages caused by falling/heavenly object
  • Collision with bird and animal
  • Vandalism

Hope it'd help you in understanding about the function of comprehensive coverage.
