uninsured & just got in accident

Here's what happened in a nutshell:

There was a male riding his bicyle in the middle of my lane (two way road) in the middle of 7:30 am rush hour. Waited & then went around him, sun glaring in my eyes, I hit a parked car (stopped @ red light.) Minimum damanges to my vechile. I left the scene in ambluance- didn't see any of the damages to either car until I got out of hospital & only saw my car.

Come to find out my ensurance was cancelled, since my 6 month policy was up @ the end of August. Never was in an accident before. What happens now? I am not trying to get out of paying- I did hit the car & was given a ticket. Am a college student, and make $2.65 per hr as a waiteress- funds are low. Going to college on grants. I fixed my ensurance now, but during the accident- the coverage was not there. What do I do? Am I going to be sued? I don't want to go to jail- this was an honest mistake!! I need my license to go to college/work--!

Help!!!

Sounds like you got some good advice here from Life. I huess what you need to do now is calm down and chalk this one up to a learning experience. Remember to always to see that your insurance is paid and up to date..all insurances..life, auto, health...so this doesn't happen again.. Good Luck

I have a court date for my ticket- but not until next month. I am nervous & wonder what will happen.

You'll get a fine, do yourself a favor go in there head up shoulders back, say, 'judge i screwed up' and it explain it to him....judge's dig honesty...

Should I just inform the hospital of this?

Do you have health coverage? If so give them that info if not...then tell them your situation, you might qualify as a right off...

My dad is the co-ownr on the car- is he going to be involved in this?

Maybe but I doubt it are you sure he's a co owner and not just a co-signer on your loan?

Should I wait for the other person's insurance company to contact me? (they have not as of this date.)

Definately wait on them to contact you...!!!!! What do you need a lawyer for? What is your court/ticket for I thought it was no insurance?

What should I expect in court?

Depends on why you are going?

Is my father going to be fined?

no, he won't be fined for your traffic ticket...

The police were not aware of my no-coverage, as I was not either.

Well the judge might ask you then...do you have ins? If he asks whatever you do tell the truth..lying to a judge is never a smart thing to do....what EXACTLY are you going to court for?

Yes.. I have health insurance & gave the hospital that information only (since I was wheeled off on a scretcher- the paramedics wouldn't let me move) What do you mean by qualify as a write off? Not sure what that means?

My father co-signed for the loan, but is not on the title- only I am.

I just wondered if I did or not need one. (Lawyer) I got the ticket for failing to yeild at a safe distance. Since I was not aware of no coverage- I just gave them the name of my insurance company, no policy #'s or contact #'s because I didn't have access to them at the time of the accident. The ticket is only for that-- failing to yeild, it's 2 points & $100 fine. I have no clue what no insurance will add onto that?

The court date is just to tell the judge what happened, and all I want to get out of is the points. I have none on my record and would love to keep it that way- I understand that they will find out about the no insurance, since it is bound to come up - especially if the person I hit appears in court. I hope that whomever the judge is, he won't be completely harsh with the fines.

Doesn't matter now if you have health insurance that's all they need, they know that auto policy would be primary so call them and tell them you have no auto policy it will all be paid by your health carrier...and check that one off your list...

My father co-signed for the loan, but is not on the title- only I am.

Then Daddy is in the clear...another one to check off your worry list.

I don't think you do just say, 'yep I did it, sorry' and pay the fine...If I were you I'd not get into that trying to get points off etc..unless the no insurance comes up...otherwise IMO I'd pay and get the heck out of dodge!

Ding ding ding! DO NOT say a word about insurance. Do not volunteer a thing to the judge while you are in court. If he asks you a question, answer only that question.

DO NOT say anything about insurance unless you are asked.

I'd go with the, "Yep, I did it..sorry." And if he asks how it happened, tell him you tried to go around him, sun blinded you, you hit the car.

Finito.
