Unfortunate for me I was in a hit and run. My 2003 Honda coupe ex got hit bad from the rear bad. My Insurance declares it a total loss. 'm in pain that car was my car.
I lost it because of a STUPID driver. The mileage is around 117k can anyone help me find out if 8k would be a good trade or what can I do?

Hi Haloz, Hope you were not hurt in the accident.

We need more information to make any comment on the value of the car. Does it had Cruise Control, sun/moon roof, Power Steering and the like?

Also, you haven't mentioned where you are from.

I come up with 7525.00 for clean retail, you need to make the following adjustments,

Alumin/alloy whees--add 150.00
without air condition-- deduct 350.00
without auto tranny---deduct 325.00
these are the only options that make any difference in my system.

so if they are offering you 8k as an ACV (actual cash value) then I'd say somebody forgot to put your mileage in (it's a 625.00 deduct)...and you should jump on it before 'somebody' figures it out..

They wouldn't be offering you trade in value, so I'm not sure where you go that...the clean trade-in value is 5975.00

So again in my book 8k is about 500 too much...for this vehicles ACV, of course if there is any UNrepaired PRIOR DAMAGE that would be deducted as well (ie dents, scratches, any interior damage, like cig burns etc)...

They will also owe you (on top of the ACV)...sales tax, and title transfer fees...sales tax is handled differently in each state, so they may pay this straight out, (maybe the 8k includes that? you need to ask)..or by way of an affidavit..

Let us know if we can help in any other way...

It's not uncommon for people to buy totaled cars. Now all you'd need to decide is whether you want it to be sold to a junkyard or like the good parts to be sold separately for a better price. Have you considered putting it to the craigslist?
