Glass

Last year I had a piece of debri from the road fly up and crack my windshield and crack it two days after my inspection. I called my insurance company only to find out that I do not have glass, I had it on my prior policy, this one was supposed to have the same coverage but I found out through experience that it does not.

Anyway, since the crack was near the bottom I waited till my next inspection, next week to get the windshield replaced. Since I had glass on my last policy I know that it was around $250 to replace one, I always had to pay the deductable of $50.

So now with no glass coverage, I shopped and found two shops that could replace my windsheild for $160, that included them coming and picking up the vehicle at my job.

My question is, why is it more for the insurance company to replace the windshield than if I pay for it out of pocket.

I am glad it is the lower price, but I think these prices on repair affect the cost our insurance premium. Is this common practice and why do the insurance carriers let this go on.

Yeah that is strange, most of the coal trucks where I live are carrying coal, rocks or dirt, no cds, lol.

I know I can not figure it pout either. I wonder if you live in a high coal truck area with lots of damages if it costs more to insure glass? I know some area goes by accidents.

I am so mad, I am switching insurance companies, got my renewal and it went up to $908 every six months, I am switching, got a quote of $600 for what I want.

No tickets on me or my hubby, no claims, no nothing, this is crap.

I swear this is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with, no glass coverage, should have been there, supposed to be comparable to my other policy I replaced. I dropped my truck to liability and still paying more.

I called my union hall today and told them they need to take their logo off this company and not promote it to union members, they are saying this increase was because of medical cost in my area. Well it isn't affecting anyone else with different insurance companies.

goodbye AIG

awwww, you know, no insult to anyone here, but god I hate shopping for insurance, just not my thing you know. I did get some good quotes from Progressive and Geico. I have to call them and confirm the coverages are there this time not just assuming they are. Like glass, I know now that I should have asked those questions before but I just assumed it would be the same, I was supposed to have comparative coverage. Well learn the hard way I guess.

I know a few people that are covered by Geico and honestly thought of looking into them myself. My one male friend had his insurance company refuse to renew him after his son was in an accident in another persons vehicle. There was ten of thousands in med bills. I do not know the exact reasoning they used but in any case he was shopping around and swears Geico is really good at their rates.
I really hate when they raise your insurance due to these types of claims but hey what can you do. I know insurance in my area is higher because they claim the accidents are higher. do you have a loan out through any bank? I know when we went for our home consolidation loan they asked if we wanted one of their insurance specialist to call. I asked what they did and they said they will find you the the best rate in insurance. I called and it was amazing what I could save when I switch. As soon as all this other legal crap is out of the way this is what I am going...

hate shopping for insurance

ya' know what? i'd worry about someone that 'liked' shopping for insurance....no offense taken here, i hate it too..you know there are too many agents that will undercut coverage (at your expense ultimately) to quote a lower rate,k the old adage of 'if it sounds too good to be true'' is worth thinking about ..

I have learned the hard way and I have to say that I have learned alot here, so the search for insurances started online and then a follow up phone call for an explaination before purchasing. I was on with two different companies today. I did change, one company came in well under for all the same coverage. So, I change out, set up automatic withdrawal, printed off my cards and then, and then, and then drumrollllllllllll

Called AIG for my refund. Free at last, Free at last

I was really surprised at AIG, even in the end there was no survey on as to why I switched, they did not seem to care, maybe the customer service reps see the end in site or something. Not sure, any way, faxed my cancellation request and an hour later was able to get my refund information.

I'm glad you got it done...the main thing is to compare apples to apples meaning same coverages, deductibles AND limits.

Actually lori I ended up with more coverage for about $350 less a year, I contribute alot of that to knowing what to ask and alot of that knowledge came from here.

Goes back to the prior heated discussion that was on here about people that are not in the industry. (remember), well this is a good example of how this forum helped somebody and when somebody new comes around wanting to shop for insurance, I can have some good first hand experience to pass on to them. Thanks to discussions on this forum. you have helped me tremendously, we had alot of discussion about this about a year and a half ago.
