I take it you are wondering about whether you have to pay the money up front and get reimbursed or whether the insurer pays the hospital directly? in almost all cases I'd expect the insurer to settle directly with the hospital. _________________ Get free insurance quotes or Purchase auto Insurance online in minutes.

Some people would refer to it as a 'cashless settlement'. It is done if the health care unit where the insured got treated falls within the carrier's network. Otherwise, the insured needs to bear the expenses initially and gets reimbursed for the medical bills later.
