Which state? A lot of companies offer them but, some companies only offer them in certain counties, due to not wanting to compete with areas that may already be heavily marketed or for other reasons. Some brokerages will have a list of which MAPD plans are most competetive in each zipcode or county.

Nicholas . . .

All of the major players in health care should be offering Medicare Advantage plans in NY state.

Here's the link to the NYSID where you'll find what you want: http://www.ins.state.ny.us/caremain.htm

Medicare Advantage is the best thing available for most Medicare beneficiaries. It has reduced out of pocket expenses by up to 50% for many compared to Parts A & B, and eliminates the need to pay additional money for a Medicare Supplement plan. More importantly, it saves the US Government millions of dollars each month.

In the Southern California region (and many other parts of California), where the majority of the state's seniors reside, the players are not charging additional premiums to capture market share (aka: government money cash flow). They can afford to do this because the market is supported by the millions of other younger, healthier subscribers who pay premiums and consume less in the way of health care.

But in other areas, such as the Portland (OR)-Vancouver (WA) region, my 86-year-old Mom's MedAdvantage PPO plan from Regence BCBS of Oregon costs me $90.40 per month (as her premium payor) because the market is much smaller. She was hospitalized for 4 days in August and her out of pocket expense was $675 (including a $50 deductible and a $100 ambulance ride) -- under Part A, she would have paid $1100 for her hospital admission (there would probably have been no cost for the ambulance ride). So her out of pocket was nearly 40% less (in exchange for her monthly premium).

Additionally, her billing was more than $30,000 for the 4 days as an in-patient (plus the cost of physicians, surgeons, radiologists), but the negotiated rate was just over $11,000 -- about the same as Medicare would have paid -- but in this case, saving the government the $11,000.

So why is Obama dead-set against the MedAdvantage plans? Because he's a socialist and would prefer that there were no profit-making ventures (especially insurance companies) in America. Certainly not ones being funded by the government.

Hello USSA -- the Union of Socialist States of America.
