my father told me he had some life insurence and after he past i couldn't find any policy or paper work at his home so now i dont know where to look. he died in 2000 and i he lived in NJ. I tried missing money.com but their web site is not including NJ at this time. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME
Wow that is a good question. You may get some answers from the funeral home itself. Maybe in their years of business they have dealt with a similiar situation. If not maybe you could check with life insurance agencies around where he lived or ask a local one and they could advise you how to go about this matter. Good Luck
You might try the missing money thing after several years have passed, but I'm not sure its always going to be posted there. If you can't find any paperwork you may be out of luck.
Hopefully you can find it and get the help you may need from it. So, just keep looking and good luck!
How about asking the other family members? Is your mother still alive? Can she help in this regards? You may also like to contact the executor of your fathers property or his agent. _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved.
yed this definately is a toughie. I believe there has to be a way to find the missing money. Let me know how it works out. You never know if you'll run into this problem in the future.

Some ideas.......
If he had a Policy likely someone made payments. Look through his Check book and Bank Statements for any and all insurance payments.
Maybe he has the Life policy with the same company as is Auto & Home insurance. Talk to his agent.
Did he have a "Best Friend" that he may have confided in??
Was he employed? Could have been a Company plan.
Sometimes Banks offer policies as perks. Check with his banker(s).
Good morning everyone,
Just in case any of you are ever asked this question again, know that www.mib.com is the most accurate and comprehensive policy search engine available. I think the fee for consumers is around $75 and you'll need a death certificate and proof of insurable interest.
You can also contact my friend, Paul Archibald, the Lost Life Insurance Finder Expert. This service is usually a little more expensive, but there is no one better at finding lost policies.

Thats a website I will keep in mind. Until you hear of someone else having this kind of problem you never think it will effect you. It could very well happen to anyone of us. My family is really close knitted and keep copies of each others wills and policies just in case we would ever need these documents.
In fairness...I always advise consumers to NEVER pay for that type of service. By using some of the suggested ideas and other sources, you will likely find out what you need to know.
No offense intended Invest...but it's just a general rule many people have used in my 27 years in the business.
Ohio,
I've been investigating this sort of thing for almost 15 years. If there is a better policy locator method or service (with little or no work on my part) please, please, please let me know what it is. I run into several of these cases each month and I'd love to try your system .

Ithink if you have no other options you may just have to go that way. I mean what other choice does a person have? Usually with life insurance you are asked to name a beneficary (sp?). I'm wondering if there was a policy did someone else get that money and never mention it?
I get 4 or 5 cases each month (most I do not take) in which a man or woman claims his/her deceased parent had a life insurance policy and assert they were entitled to an equal share of the death benefit.
However, they often allege that a brother, sister, in-law, God-parent, or someone else close to the family, falsified a signature or wrongfully altered a document and kept all the money for themselves.
These people actually have no idea if a policy ever existed. Just that shortly after a parent died, the poor, stupid brother who has never held down a job for more than a month is driving a new Mercedes.
If there is a no-fail method of finding out whether the parent actually had a policy with some company, who made the claim, how much the benefit was, and when this all happened, I would very much like to know about it.
I would even be happy to send the person who gets me this information a few cases. _________________ Please feel free to go to my website at www.markcolbert.com or, if you have a specific question, you can email me directly. You think there would be a way of finding out this sort of thing. I think it is disrespectful totake advantage of a death (pertaining to cases like the mercedes) but I also know this world is losing alot of its values. Usually when someone leaves a policy or any money behind they would like it to be used for funeral and to be put up incase their loved one ever goes through a hard time. You can usually find out who your real family and friends are at a time like that. This situation I'm sure has been the basis of alot of family fueds.
The Internet is full of free sources of information. One such site (I can't remember who...they are a dot.org company) will research this type of thing FREE.
If I can come up with the name, I'll post it. Give me a few months.
C'mon Ohio - a few months?! For those of us who don't draw a paycheck unless we're producing results, a few months is an eternity. I have a case I'm working on in Southfield, MI. A couple of women (sisters) forged a signature on their late mother's death claim and their only brother got screwed out of his fair share. He's looking for a policy, which company was involved, when the claim was filed and how much they got. I was going to ask him for a $500 retainer and he'll probably pay it. If you'd lke the case, I'll send it your direction. You get the information from him and charge whatever you'd like
Let me know.
