basement flooded

I have H.O.I. with Alstate and a ryder to cover sewer and drain back up coverage, my home has a french drain system and two sump pumps, they failed to release the water pressure and my basement got flooded, the ryder do not mention sump pump overflow as been part of the coverage and allstate denied the claim. Can the french drain system under the basement considered as part of my endorsment coverage? and the sump pumps as part of the drainage system?

You have to refer to the exclusion clause of your homeowners policy to find out the exact reason of the denial. The insurer must have explained the definition of the drainage system at the endorsement part of the policy.

As we don't know the exact verbiage of you policy its difficult from us to determined whether that shud be covered by the insurer or not. the insurer must have given you the reason in writing for not entertaining the claim, if not ask them to send it to you.

Yeah, reading the policy document again sounds to me as a very good idea. The sewer_and_drain back-up rider will typically cover the damages if the system back-flows because of the faulty connection between the public and private sewer lines. However, it'll not cover the same if it happens in the homeowners private sewerage system.

I have Allstate and have a similar endorsement. It states as follows:

Water Back-up endorsement

...sudden and accidental.... property we cover.... under Coverage A, B, C, caused by water or any other substances within your dwelling or other building structures on the residence premises which:

a) backs up through sewers or drains located within the residence premises; or

b) overflows from a sump pump, sump pump well or other system located within the residence premises designed for the removal of subsurface water which is drained from a foundation area of a structure.

Find your endorsement and see how it reads. I'd would think there is coverage if the language is similar to above, but who knows about Allstate. I also handled a claim with a french drain and questioned coverage... that carrier paid the claim due to the spirit of how the endorsement was written (since it did not state french drain). Then again that wasn't Allstate.
