insurance company issued a check for settlement but insuffic

Had water damage to home; claim is still pending inasmuch as settlement was insufficient - trying to
help this individual (had brain surgery) - what is
time limitiation on check/claim? Do not have date
of check at finger tips, but feel it is rather dated. Hope to assist policyholder to complete the claim;
she is a friend in need. Check is for $500, under-
stand phone contact may have upped it to $4500;
but to my knowledge, no written confirmation.
I need to write the insurance company, but would
like to know the limitation on check/claim? Thanks.

Depending on the situation (of course), if you were sent a 'settlement' check, and you don't agree on the amount ( you thought you should get more) can you 'dispute' the amount?

of course, you can always dispute it....one would assume if it were a 'settlement' then the terms would've been discussed in advance (ie injury, total loss etc).

Thats how I have always seen it done. Usually an adjuster comes out and goes over everything with you in a few days. he can uusually give you a rough estimate . Someone ran off the road and took out my moms brand new deck and the adjuster was out shortly after. He wrote her up an estimate after they agreed upon damages but when he sent her the check he had subtracted from the amount due to "depreciation" Mom fought this and won because she had all the lumber reciepts and contractor bill showing the date the deck was built.

I thought she did a really good job myself. She is one of those people who fights if she thinks something is unfair. I must have inherited her spirit...at least I hope.

The insurance co sent me a check that read property damage, then an amount. At that time the bodyshop had only taken pic's of the damage, on a friday then i brought in to be repaired on monday and tuesday evening when opened letter there's a check. The amount could not possibly be enough for the repairs. should i hold on to the check until repairs are complete?

You don't necessarily have to hold the check, but you need to contact the insurance company and discuss the situation with them.
