car accident

About 6 months ago I was invovled in a car accident. A lady driving too fast for weather conditions totaled my truck with her car and was cited on scene. My jaw was slightly disaligned for which I now wear a retainer at night, whiplash and right arm trauma (used it to block the airbag). What I thought was going to be a quick recovery turned into a nightmare. After months of Phy. therapy, chiropractic care and medical test I was finally diagnosed with RSD (chronic pain syndrome) in my right arm. It is still very swollen and slightly discolored and they say this is all the better it will get and may actually worsen in time. Tomorrow I go to the pain clinic to find ways to manage the pain. This coluldn't happened at a worse time since my husband and I was building a home and both HAD to be working. Now I am buries in finacial woes and get depressed thinking that it is really going to be never ending since my earning capacity is knocked to nothing. My right arm is my dominant one and my job requires a lot of lifting and physical ability (when and if I ever can do it again). I was released to light duty before being diagnosed with the RSD but my job was done for the year . I usually spend every winter working part time at a clothing store, then in the spring return to the greenhouse. Does anyone have any idea how long a claim like this will take to settle? I hear when your done doctoring but in my case that will never be. What is a amount that I can expect from this claim? I really need to shed some light down this dark hole.

wow August you hit the nail on the head. It is absurd how much you pay to see a doc and then feel like you are being rushed out the door. After not getting enough time or answers from my pain clinic, I scheduled an appointment with my primary care doc. They treated me after the accident first. They directly told me they could not be of any assistance to me at all on this anymore since they turned the care of me over to the pain clinic. I am definately ready to be done with all this. I didn't ask for this aggravation. It has been two weeks and I am still awaiting the results from my testing I had to travel a zillion miles to get. They said within a couple days I could call the perscribing doc and get the results. When I do they keep saying that there is nothing in the computer yet..Anyone just wanna go look around and see if they may be laying somewhere..Guess that takes too much time. Well I am done venting for now. Kelli I see your getting the stallate block in a couple days..good luck.

I have a lot of fear about those blocks or shots or what ever they are called, they are a temporary fix of the problem right? They don't take it away right? I am afraid of the side effects.

finally got those results from Pitt, after many calls. It is RSD already progressed to late stage 2. If I don't get these blocks and it reaches stage 3 I may lose alot of more use of my arm, so therefore I haven't got much choice. It is short term but the more you get the shots the longer the effects. I have been on the net for two days straight researching RSD and quite frankly it scares me cause I can already see the onset of stage 3 setting in. Once you let it go too long not too much can help control the symptoms. a good web page for anyone dealing with this and or dealing with people who seem to think it is all in your head need to check out RSDHOPE.ORG. So now I'm left to deal with the demon but life has taught me quite a bit this past year and I'm tougher than I relized. I'm going after it with a passion and not giving up. Even though it is uncurable there are things that can be done to tolerate it. Hopefully I still have this outlook a year from now when it will probaly be worse but for now its day by day. Well gonna go gather more info, make a question sheet and pray the pain clinic can fit me in before Feb. 27 when my first block takes place. Talk to ya soon

Yes I must say this is a pretty good site. Keeping my hopes up. I relize dealing with long term treatment may become stressful but I'll manage. Got a pretty good support team here at home also. That really helps.

Hi Everyone, Well I had the stellate ganglion block on feb 14th and let me say it was not painful, I actually do not remember a thing, I just remember getting off the table thats it! and I felt so damn good with no pain, I actually kept saying over and over again that I feel so good! first time in 17 months I have been pain free, but it was bitter swet as it only lasted for 5 hours and the test for me was basically for diagnostic testing and as well as pain relief. When I came home I actually ate a whole tv dinner something I usually cant do, I am usually under 600 calories a day as the pain is so intense, I usually just take a bite here and there and this felt so good to eat. Fireyone it was easy and painless dont be scared, side effects are red and droopy eye on side of injection stuffynose like you have a cold headache and a lump in your throat that is so wierd but it goes away. I am glad you are having it done good luck it will be ok. I will now be realy busy with all my dr appointments and treatment plan and will check in with you later. Bye everone and have a good week.

It only lasted for 5 hours? So do you keep going back for the blocks or what, does not seem worth it if there is not something that can last longer, I was picturing about 6 months of so anyway. Was this just a test, will they give you something that will last longer?

I wish you luck in your recovery, hope it all works out for you soon. Hope they get you more relief then 5 hours. goodluck.

So in the first article i pasted it states one may need 2- 10 depending on pain relief, my first one was to actually see if it is my sympethic nervous system was involved and to document along with my other sx,s= tremors, extreme nail growth and very groved nails color changes, rashes, and extreme coldness on my right hand as well as causalgia and allodina, that this is truly RSD though i only had 5 hours of relief it did prove this to be RSD now will be talking to neuro and anestheisiologist on a treatment plan
