My auto policy is in mine and my husbands name . My son was added to this policy as a driver a couple of years ago. Can he title a vehicle in his name and still be covered under the same policy?

I answered this question just about a week ago but I cannot find the post for the life of me.

Short answer, yes... but you need to add the vehicle into your policy as well.

Technically, the insured needs to have a legal "interest" in the vehicle. Also, if the vehicle were a total loss, the policy holder(s) should be paid. So the adjuster would need to pay you and your husband... for a vehicle you have no legal "interest" in. But rest assured, vehicles owned by dependents are insured under their parents policy every day. As long as the carrier is aware of all the drivers and all the vehicles in the household, they won't have a problem insuring the vehicle and driver. In that they know of the vehicle and driver and are collecting the right premium, they should also have no problem paying the claim. Again, it's just creates an odd situation for the adjuster (really, the adjuster should name the parents and child on the check).

How old is your son? You may want to look into getting his own policy...

you will have to include your son's vehicle into your policy, and then he would be included into your policy as well.
but as nique said, you might want to buy your son an insurance policy of his own, i don't think he is young anymore, judging that he already has his vehicle and drives.
