Parent insurance

Hi I just got my license. My parents have AAA insurance. Would it be legal for me to drive their car since the car is already insured? I don't have insurance for my actual person, and I'm not under their insurance policy.

When begining to drive, one option to get experience is to drive a parent or guardian's car. Of course, if you are a provisional licence holder, they would need to be present at all times.

In this situation, insurance cover must be in place. This would require you to be named on the car's current policy. It is not exceptable to take-out another policy for this car in your name. This is called Dual Insurance, and in the event of an accident, with two policies in place, paying out would cause problems as both covers would collectively cover the amount of the claim.

Some insurers will not allow younger drivers to be added to car insurance policies. If your parent or guardian is having this problem with their insurer, we can offer a quote for a brand new policy with you both on (this would mean cancelling their existing cover).
