Where do I find if a deceased relative had auto insurance?

Auto insurance? Why would you need to know that? If they did then they would've got a bill for it and then a cancelation if they didn't pay it...also look in the glove box, console and their papers, including their check register for payments to an ins carrier...still can't figure you why you'd need to know that though. :?

Hi, you may ask the friends, office assistants or business partners of the deceased relative as well. Also you may enquire at the work-place & ask them to check for the records. Thanx, Roddick

Only reason I can see is either cancelling it or claiming PIP benefits in some states.

Almost always in the glovebox or person's wallet. Could wait for a bill to show up.

This was left in my box by a guest, assume it pertains to this thread....

The vehicle is being driven by family members. I would just like to make sure the vehicle is insured, that is why the question came up?

If the owner is deceased then you need to a policy on the vehicle before someone is driving it...if a loss occurs and you're lucky the person driving it will have another vehicle that their policy will transfer to (temporary substitue vehicle)...but way too risky...you don't say how long the owner has been gone...could be that the policy has lapsed, should be fairly easy to find something, then contact the agent advise the owner has passed away and get the car transferred to someone else...do you know who will become the new owner of the vehicle?

Riffling through the pages of the decedent's documents or the check book can prove worthwhile in locating the policy. But most likely he/she has been carrying the proof of the financial while driving, hence, checking in the glovebox sounds to me a great idea.

Also, you can contact the insurance agent or the insurance company to know the whereabouts of the policy.

if the person is dead, how will they keep paying for auto insurance? unless they prepaid it, but that would last for a year or less.
i suggest who ever drives it now renews the insurance and puts it in their name.
