and I parked my vehicle until I could afford to get it again. While it was parked an uninsured motorist slammed into it causing $4000.00 worth of damages. Police came and did a report. She tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and THC. She got a DWI-Drugs and ticket for not staying on her side of the road. Was I suppose to maintain insurance even if I'm not using my vehicle? Am I suppose to report this accident to The Dept. of Motor Vehicle?

'Prosecutor''s office said I am a victim witness that will be called to court when she goes. They put the estimate I gave them in her file. I also told them I had a form that requests restitution (I got it from the website of a prosecutor''s office in another Missouri county) and the secretary had never seen one before but put it in the file, also. In addition I am going to find a list of several other vehicles for sale just like mine so the judge can see comparible prices. Also, I learned that any accident involving an uninsured car (even if one is psrked) must be reported to the State Motor Vehicle Department and they have a special form online. They will asign her a percentage of fault and apply that to the amount of damages (100% I hope) and make her enter into a payment agreement or lose her license. Payment agreements will be enforced better by the court and Dept MV than me trying to collect stopped payments in civil court. SO... I think we are all learning something. I also priced insurance and found one I can afford.')

That's indeed a great news, Terry. Sorry that you hadn't found it before the accident, otherwise you could have avoided all these troubles.
Hope you soon get out of it.
