Depends on what state you live in. Could you give us a little more info?

If they're looking for someone to pull up their sales volume, then they might just pick someone with a few years of successful selling experience. Under such a scenario, they'd probably look at the brand names under which the person has worked and the kinda products/services that he's been selling.

When agencies hire people with no previous insurance experience they are hiring to cultivate a talent they may see in you. Our agency hires people with no experience because they are eager to learn and they come with no baggage. This way we are able to teach them our methods and techniques without the "We did it like this at the other company" attitude.

I agree with Plasticmind with regards to "increasing sales volume and successful sales experience. As an office manager I looked for people who had some sales experience and a track records for interactiving with a diverse group of people well.

Selling insurance is not rocket science!
