Starting in Insurance Sales

by hurtarte30 » Tue Sep 01, 2009 10:35 pm

One I get my Life, Health and Accident Licence I plan on working for AFLAC as an independent agent. I have been told that, since i will be in front of many business owners, I should also sell other insurance products. Any suggestions on what other companies I should look into?? I live in Houston Texas. Thanks!!

It is always a good idea to be prepared for opportunities. I say get all the education that you can stand to get and run with it. I would first focus on the primary product until you get comfortable selling it efficently.

Hi Hurtarte30,

Getting an agent appointment can be challenging, and once you get it you'll be spending a lot of time working on closing sales. Often times one customer for one type of policy would be interested in another type of policy that you might not be in a position to sell. You might want to check out this site clickandbind.com. They make it easier to get an insurance agent (or broker) appointment, enable you to sell more products, and enable you to sell insurance online using your own website brand.

Good Luck!

Hi Hurtarte30,

It is actually pretty easy to get contracted with many carriers. The way you do this is to team up with what we call a BGA (Brokerage General Agency) or an MGA (marketing General Agency) they are the same thing. They work with independent agents to provide them training, contracts, quotes, and support. If you need help please feel free to contact me directly.

Good luck
