Guest, any one can get a disability. What precisely are you asking? Are you asking if you can collect on a disability claim? Are you asking whether you can buy a disability policy?

To me, Self Employed means you ARE working. So...how can you get Disability ( which means to me that you CAN'T work..) if you're working? Doesn't make sense to me.

Yes, you can get a disability policy if you are self-employed.

I didn't know disability was a policy. I thought that was something that was deducted out of your check with every check you earned. If you collect disability and you are self employed that would mean you cannot work for your self again.I would think it is like the option to take the insurance on your credit card where if you are out for a period and cannot work they will make the payment for you. I was always told that you cannot have this type of insurance of you are self employed.

Of course - so long as you have a job with earnings to protect and are in reasonably good health, then you can purchase disability insurance.

Hey buddy, you're not in a position to enjoy 'sick leaves' as that of your own employees. If you fall sick you won't be able to handle your business properly. If you can't survive a financial crunch then you might need to wash your hands off your home and business someday. Disability insurance could be a precaution. Roddick

Dear hummingbird, the thing that you won't be able to work once you collect disability depends a lot on the nature of disability as well as the extent to which you're suffering from it. You can always distinguish between permanent disability and temporary or partial disability.
