I am a licensed insurance representative/manager. I took a job with my sister who is an agent a little over a year ago. I started at 10.00 dollars an hour. In 2005 I made 15.40 and was not a manager. Took time in a different field. My sister asked me to come work for her and I told her yes since the market was tough. I told her I wanted to make 15.40 an hour by the time my son finished High-school. He is now seventeen, and one year left after this year. My sister/boss husband lost his disability and she was helping me as I was helping her Her husband received his disability back a few months later and I never saw anything but a 1.00 raise. I was made office manager without the pay and my sister was agent of the year for the first time. We all worked hard for this and went through alot of mental anguish. Where should i be at with the economy at this point? I feel I was given responsibility with no extra pay and i dont see any bonuses. I still give a 110%. I work on weekend 3-4 times in one year and no overtime and when we leave at 5:30 pm we are supposed to make sure are work is done. Last two weeks she was ill and i worked through part of my lunch and stayed late to make sure things were taken care of before i left. Then didnt receive the pay for the extra hours. When I asked, I was told to take full lunch and dont stay late without permission. Now we dont talk about any of the issues that were ignore during the end of the year production. Now she is micromanaging and wants all calls loged in and out and what was talked about. I feel I am being taking advantage of with my pay. I have been ill, and no compassion and when I burned my arm and had second degree burn there was no compassion. I let her know that I was leaving for a walk in appointment for my arm. She has a husband who stays home all day and no children. I have a husband 3 kids 20, 17, 12 and a grandbaby born last sept (5months). She has no compassion when it comes to other peoples illness of kids. She has a husband that does it all. What should I do about my salary. I have mentioned in the past that my 17 year old made more than me during the holidays. She likes to remind me that I was lucky when I brought home 6$ after a days work when I first received my cosmetology lic. My sister is the only family member i get along with the best. Our parents are deceased and we are all we have left. She also raised me since she was 13 years old. So I am dealing with my Boss, Mom and oldest closest sister. How do I deal with this issue? Please let me know what advice you have. I am also in charge of many other duties inc, cleaning, fixing equipment, banking, financial banking for clients, auto quotes/sales, ho policies filing, marketing and a woman with many hats. I am becoming more and more irritated since sept and nothing has changed! Please advise! Thank you very much for your time.

I guess your sister is being too bossy when it comes to a realistic pay hike. May be she's trying to take advantage of your relationship through this economic downturn.
I see, you're in charge of so many things at the same time and yet she's not compassionate towards you. Why don't you look for a change! May be you could just surf through a couple of job portals that allow you to weigh your chances..

Thank you for your response! I take my life exam Monday for the State of California. I hope to pass! I get test anxiety though. I do plan on looking else where. I find I am really enjoying the life class and want to persue series 6 & 63. I hope to maybe work for a bank or escrow office. I am just not happy with the changes taking place. We once were a very happy office. Going for agent of the year, also had its price too. What do you think a decent pay is in this economy. The other girl and I were talking today about how our office is known for customer service, friendlyness, and family oriented. Now its make a 30 sec phone call on a payment. Spelling is not the best, but numbers are! I appreciate your feedback and time.
