The insurer ran a report through a consumer database (likely "CLUE" or "PLUS" reports) which showed a property loss on the property that had been paid by an insurer at some point in time. Insurers run these kind of reports as a standard operating procedure. Did you receive anything in writing from the insurance company? Under law, you must be given a declination notice if they refuse to issue the policy.

What type of loss was it? Was that info given to you? Regardless, it shouldn't have anything to do with you. I suggest getting in touch with your agent and have him plead your case to the underwriter, or get us the info asked above and we'll see what we can do.

Yes, I too feel you ought to be given a notice for the declaration. You must contact your agent regarding this. Some of the agents are really helpful in conveying such cases to the underwriters.
