HOW DO I GO ABOUT CHALLANGING A LIFE INSURANCE BENEFICIARY?

My Father passed away two weeks ago leaving his estate to his six children. My Mother and Father were married at the time of his death but had been separated for two years previously with my mother moving out of the home they shared as Tennants In Common. My Mum is my Dad's next of kin.

Dad had two Whole of Life insurance policies - one for himself and one for our Mother which he solely paid into. We have never had a good relationship with our Mum but now she is refusing to pay out anything for my Father's funeral costs. (Totaling just over £10,000) We (his six children) have paid the funeral costs but is there any way we can dispute the payout to her or get her to pay towards some of the costs as Dad's next of kin?

Thanks in advance
Lisa

Well, if your mother is the beneficiary of your dad's policy, the policy proceeds should go to her and you can't really say a word about it. However, you all may have a discussion and try to persuade her into paying something out of her own free will.

Or...you can buy lottery tickets and hope to win an amount equal to your current loss. The odds of collecting are probably equally dismal
