I am very confused, so many compulsions, laws and no simple information.
What I want is simple answers to my questions. Do I really need insurance even if I am buying a very cheap car?

What is your state's requirement? If it is mandatory to have the liability coverage then there is no way out. But if the answer is no, then also it is suggestible to have the auto insurance policy to avoid being sued.
It doesn't matter whether you have a cheap car or an expensive one.
