Funny you should ask. Seems like LM just bought Safeco. For the record, they are both very good.

Yeah, you are right, Liberty Mutual has indeed agreed to buy Safeco for $6.2 billion, which will push Liberty Mutual's position to 5th place in property and Casualty lines of insurance. Therefore, you can't actually compare between these two companies, henceforth, they will be one and the same

Acquisition of Safeco would help Liberty Mutual to expand its business to the west coast of USA. It would get extensive support of the huge network of agents of Safeco.
