Computer insurance is a means of coverage against damages done to computers accidently by the owners or from fxternal factors such as power surges . This form of insurance is targeted to cover the thousands od computers used by the students, private individuals and small businesses.

This coverage also includes stealing of personal computers and Laptops at the business environments, public sector buildings and also from ordinary households.

Hi !
I'm a homeowner and I'm too sure that my Laptop is registered under my contents policy. Then why do I think of a computer insurance ? Are there any other reasons which need my consideration ?

Yeah, its for sure that almost all contents policies would cover your personal computer under the contents list. But my friend, to tell you the truth you may not have been covered for carrying your laptop somewhere else without an all-risks policy. So it would be better for you to go through your policy documents or consult your agent. I'd also like you to know about those policies whose upper limits are not so high and hence the cost of the new computer won't be covered by them. Also would like you to remember that your policy would only pay up to the recent value of your computer.

Sometimes it may so happen the your premium for the contents' policy may rise automatically once you make a claim on your contents' insurance. These are the things you need to keep in mind before turning down such an insurance offer.

Isn't such an insurance too costly for a personal computer ? What about the premiums that we need to pay?
I'm asking this since I already have a warranty for my personal computer !

Not at all my friend ! They are not costly keeping in mind the benefit that a policy would yield for our future. the premiums of such a policy would be calculated upon the value of the equipment and its generally worth 10% of the cost of the computer and the related peripherals. Speaking about the warranties, let me assure you that the warranties are sold when you buy a computer and you'd be surprised to know that they cover only the mechanical deficiencies but nothing in terms of any kind of damage or theft.

Hey there !
I have a list of 3 points that seems to be covered under a computer insurance and they are as follows :
a) a worldwide coverage for theft and damage b) No excess c) Claims are attended quickly within 24 hours provided an authorization is guaranteed for ordinary cases.
While you're opting for a computer insurance you need to be aware of the replacement cost or the actual cash value. Its better to keep a tag of the replacement cost since it reimburses for the most recent cost of the computer and associated personal belongings. But in turn the actual cash value policy would pay for the depreciated cost only. You're also adviced to keep all the receipts which has a list of all the associated items eg. softwares, associated memories etc. These items would definitely boost your claim.
have a great weekend,

Yes, its true that some companies are offering some distinctive insurance plans and also some individual insurance policies for the computers.

To avail these benefits one would not need any homeowners or renters policy. You'd just need to keep the receipt that you get at the time of purchasing your computer apart from the receipts of all those associated stuffs that you buy along with your PC and then keep them at a safer place for future coordination.
