Social Security retirement or Social Security disability?

To receive unemployment insurance benefits in any state, you must be (1) ABLE TO WORK and (2) ACTIVELY SEEKING WORK.

If you are disabled, you cannot lawfully collect unemployment benefits. If you are retired and receiving SS Retirement benefits, the amount of benefit you receive will be deducted from any UI benefit you might be entitled to receive, which could reduce your UI benefit to $0.

Probably you can, In most states, If you are getting Social Security will not reduce your unemployment benefits. If you are taking any benefits from unemployment insurance it will also not reduce your social security payments.

If you are getting Social Security

Your ignorance is showing. Social Security benefits come in two flavors: retirement and disability.

A person receiving Social Security DISABILITY benefits is ineligible for UNEMPLOYMENT insurance benefits because disability and unemployment are mutually exclusive. As previously explained, to obtain unemployment benefits a recipient must certify that he/she is ABLE TO WORK AND ACTIVELY SEEKING WORK. A disabled person is not capable of working.

Social Security allows only a minimal amount of work during a "trial period" to demonstrate one's "inability to perform any substantial gainful activity."

On the other hand, a person who receives Social Security Retirement benefits can also receive unemployment benefits, if qualified. However, the Social Security benefits will be deducted from the unemployment benefits available. Double dipping is not allowed.
