Is it possible to have 2 different policies (different companies) for the same trip ?

Most every insurance policy contains provisions on how it applies when another policy applies to the same situation. How they react depends on the verbiage in the policy.

Yes, it is quite possible for you to have 2 different policies for the same purpose but as tcope has rightly mentioned over here, you'd certainly need to go through the clauses stated in your policy papers very carefully. By doing so you'd be able to judge the different scopes wherein one policy benefit would fill in the gap left by the other. Some of the clauses may talk of benefits which may or may not act in coordination with other similar benefits. So, I believe its time for you to read through the papers. Good luck! stalematepeter

I feel you've missed out on a whisker...it would not only depend on what is stated within the clauses but also on his assessment of the requisites during applying for the policy. It may so happen that one of the policies would cease to operate if another is in place. On the other hand it may also happen that one would work in excess of the other.
Just wanted to clarify..
