Most likely. It'll depend on the ratio of the repair cost to the pre-accident value of the car. Here in Ohio last I checked it was law that the vehicle is totaled if repairs are 80% or more of the vehicle's value. I'm sure that varies some from state to state.
Just curious, have you asked the adjuster this question?
In general if a vehicle is worth less than $2000.00 almost any accident beyond a very minor bumper tap is a total loss.
Ask about your options for buying the car back from the insurance company if you'd prefer to fix the axl and keep driving the car. This may cost you less than buying a replacement vehicle especially if you caused the accident and have a collision deductible subtracted from the settlement.
I'll trust that one of the resident adjusters can elaborate on this. |

| I'm guessing if the force was enough to brake the axle that more then just that is damaged. |

Just that you haven't mentioned anything about the condition of the car.
I've seen more cars purchased around that 93-94 period which are still in good condition to be driven for years. So, it depends a lot on the condition of that car.

Probably an acturate guess, but not if it was smacked solely in the wheel...it's ''possible'' to have a little suspension damage...only...(however not likely)..
I ran your car as a 93 civic 'dx' 2 door and 4 door, without benefit of mileage or condition (options mean nothing on this vehicle due to it's age)...and it's worth around 2200-2500.00 again, without me knowing anything about condtion....also an 'axle' (new oem) on the front is about 550.00 installed...that's the entire shaft, and more than likely not what you need and many aftermarket and reman axles are available which make it less....so maybe it won't total....if you'd like expand on the damage and perhaps we can provide more assistance....

| At that estimate it really doesn't take much to total it with parts and labor being so high these days. I had a vehicle totaled recently. I am glad that they did because I probaly would have had a hard time trusting it after it was damaged. My brother went through this also but they didn't total his . They didn't have enough money to get another even though after getting it fixed it caused him continous problems and the ins. gave them trouble repairing it right. It recentlyh went into his yard with a "for sale" sign on it. |

I should have just let you field this one Lori, I was way off on my guess of replacing an axle. I imagine it's because I see final loss costs including expenses, rental cars, etc... that it seems to me that a "minor" fender bender (or quarter panel bender) is at least 1200.00 these days.
But I was pretty close in my seat of the pants ACV guess.
Do you know if that 80% of ACV figure is used in many other states? Higher or lower in MO? |

MO just changed from 75-80% with some wierd ''buts'' like the percent law doesn't apply to hail...if using the percent law then sales tax and all airbags (labor and parts) is removed from the equation etc.. Also it only applies to certain years...I can't remember I think last seven maybe...mine always seem to be constructive totals so the percentage rule rarely comes into play for me...
