This topic is becoming a huge debate in the coming election especially between Clinton and Obama According to Bloomberg news Clinton is in favor of making it mandatory for Americans to purchase health-care insurance or apply for government subsides plans.
Bloomberg News

The problems with this as I see it. Many of us can not now afford even the health-care premiums that are offered by our employers in which they will often times pay a portion of the cost. Of course we can not afford to be without it either so many of us cut corners where we can in order to have some sort of health care insurance, at least some basic coverage.

Now as we enter a new presidency we are looking at one of the major topics of the election being health-care and apparently the average American worker who can hardly afford what is available now may be required by law to purchase health-care insurance.

Where does all this end?

Alright I do not mean to vent but this is the topic that gets me burned up! I just graduated college:) I thought good things until I went in to get my birth control filled at the clinic. I do not have insurance and my job does not provide health coverage. I was told that because I am no longer a student that I must pay my prescription at full cost ($80). My big sis tried to find generics at lower costs but that is not possible. Therefore, i have no birth control and I am in a relationship meaning I need it. I called around to see of any discounts on the pill and I was told I need to fill out an application and the waiting process is about a month! HELLOOOOOOOOOOOo, I am not 12 years old. I am willing to take the pill but can not due to the lack of health insurance in our country. But, because our system goes by the rules of the bible(abstinence) it is assumed one would have to deal with this crisis. I am frustrated because I see friends with children and they have cars paid for, houses paid for, and food paid for. This is sending the message that you get more for being unresponsible rather than responsible. I have ran out of all options except for being a nun ha just kidding but really what is a girl to do???

Coffeebean,

Sounds like you are very frustrated and I can not say that I blame you. You are right, irresponsibility in this country does compensate well. I see neighbors and able young people living off the system while I bust my buns in a personal care home taking care of elderly people who can not take care of themselves.

Have you ever taken care of an elderly person with mental illness or alzhiemers, don't get me wrong, I love my job, I would not trade it for the world. But sometimes these types of residents can really try your patience, but day after day I go and show them love and compassion, the best medicine in the world, while the young lady down the street who had 3 kids before her 25th birthday is sitting on her rear end. I don't have healthcare, I was fortunate enough to get perscription help through rxassist. If it weren't for that, I would not have my medication. I had healthcare for like a month and they took it away. It is really frustrating. I know how you feel.

Oh my August, you read me like a book! I am glad you understand and glad the rest of you thought of such a good topic. Yes, I have taken care of an elderly woman before and I was at the young age of 15. I cared about her and that is my personality so that is why I majored in sociology. I know it doesn't pay well but if I can help one person out of their troubled times I would be satisfied. Maybe you understand me because you understand my personality. Maybe you are just a real helpful person and if thats the case which I bet it is then I am pleased to be speaking with you.

August
I admire you and erb both for the work you do, unfortunately these pch's are usually small and can't afford the health insurance plans, maybe their are individual plans out there that you could afford, have you thought about that? rxassist is a great program, Montel Williams really advertised good for it. Got the words to a lot of people who needed it.

Coffee Bean,
Although I respect your opinion, I have to completely disagree. Health Insurance or any insurance is based on spreading risk. If a smoker is reponsible for a higher premium based on their behavior, why do you feel that your behavior, ie unprotected sex, is anything outside of this philosophy? Also, health insurance is in the state it is in because of claims such as yours. Health insurance was not originally designed to cover all of your needs or to be a windfall for your decisions. It was to ensure that catastrophic events would not financially demolish people. In short, as a member of a group plan, I do not feel that it is my responsibility to share in the cost of your birth control. I hope that you do not take this personally. This has nothing to do with with my social beliefs, just pure economics. You have the right to do anything you choose within the confines of the law, however, do not assume that everyone should support it, financially or philosophically.
