rear ended accident and the aftermath..

by janice12881 » Tue Nov 27, 2007 02:47 pm

by Monday morning the other drivers insurance was on the phone with us telling us we need to bring out car to a network body shop to get it fixed. We told them we would like to take it to our own shop to get it checked before we do anything. We appreciated their quick response although the car is still drivable. They seemed mad that we wanted to take it to our own guy. Why do they seem so rushed and push their car shop? don't we have the right to bring it where we want? The other thing is the rear ended accident has caused a lot of damage to the undercarriage, and they told us if they come out to adjust for us to bring it to our own guy they will only pay what is seen on site not what is under the plastic cover bumper piece. This seems shady? also they told us we only get the rental option if we bring it to "their" network body shop. any advice? Thank you!

Happy Monday everyone. I hope all is doing well. Something "abnormal" showed up on my son's MRI We didn't find that out until late Friday. Today we will be making an appointment to take him to find out what this is. They did say its none life threatening But wanted us to come in to talk about.
Haven't had much time to deal with the insurance this past week. I did put a call into the other drivers insurance adjuster we were assigned, left a message for her to call me back she never did. I don't have time to be calling her everyday leave messages and play phone tag, so I suppose I will deal with her after all this medical stuff is resolved..... Which is the #1 priority. Just an update! Hope you all have a wonderful week and a Fantastic holiday!

G'morning. I hope everyone enjoyed lovely holidays and I hope this New Year is wonderful for you.

My sons back condition is something that could have been pre-exisiting but they aren't sure? He never experienced back pain before the AA He is now wearing a back brace and doing physical therapy 3x's a week, This is actually helping him, we are pleased with his progress. We are consulting with a lawyer to make sure that anything that he needs WILL be taken care of.
I once again thank you all for your help in this matter.. which I hope will be coming to a close soon. Again Lori Thanks for all the help!

SO GLAD TO HEAR YOUR BOY IS BEING HELPED! Thanks for letting us know...I think an attorney is a good choice in this claim....best of luck to you and your family Janice...I too have a back brace I had to wear non-stop for about six months and still have to wear on occasion....Hopefully since your son is young and strong he will have a full recovery...pop in from time to time and let us know how you all are doing...or anything that we can help you with....Hope your holidays were terrific and an even better New Year to you as well....

That is great news janice that you are getting some good results, hopefully everything will go on a positive path with the physical therapy. I have a brace that I wear on occasion, when my back goes out, I don't over use it, you will have to be careful in the long run with it, my orthopedic doctor cautions that if I use it everyday, my back muscles will get lazy, so after he is done with physical therapy, you may want to address how often he should wear it for the long term, what ever you do, don't throw it away when he is done, as you can see by Lori and I there are days that it will have its use. Goodluck with everything, it is good you got an attorney involved, hope you continue to get the positive results. Have a great new year.

Hi Everyone, hope all is doing well. Thank you again for all your help!
We are all in the middle of healing from this silly accident. My son now is still going for PT 3x's a week. He had a pre-existing back problem we had no idea about before the accident, who would have thunk it? HIS own insurance is picking up the bills, he has 5000.00 on medical on his OWN car insurance. He secured a lawyer this is just too complicated to handle without a lawyer even though I cringe at the thought of having one.
It seems its going to be a long and dragged out process, but as long as he's on the mend we are glad. Trust me heart broke hit major when I realized my son could not keep up with my pace as we were walking.... You just never know! I do have a question regarding bill pay. Up until just this past week, his insurance company was sending checks directly to the providers who were caring for him...he recieved a check in the mail to cover what the insurance company allows for one of his appointments.... He called his insurance company and they told him to just give the check to the doctor. Is there a reason why suddenly they'd start sending him the checks instead of the care providers? I will probably put a call into the lawyer too.. but was wondering if anyone could shed some light on that? I'm afraid if he endorses any checks it might not be a good thing? You know any feedback is greatly appreciated! Take care. Peace!

Hi! Great to hear from you! If it makes you feel better you could return it and tell the adjuster you want the doc paid direct...but it should show the coverage on the draft, likley pip or medpay...I'll bet another rep was setting that desk or helping and got lazy and paid him direct (thus not having to look up the fed tax number for the doc!...aghhh...lazy people!)...but if you are concerned, just tell them you are sending it back and they can pay the doc direct....(personally I wouldn't worry about it:)
Please keep us up dated!

Lazy people.. hehe. gotta luv it. Wonder what would happen if I did my job like that?
take care.
Peace!

I hope this post finds everyone doing well. Couple Q's First question. I know you guys answer a lot of questions in this forum and I'm sure its hard to remember each and every one you do reply to.. So I'll remind you a little. We were involved in a rear end accident where we were struck from behind at a red light, my son was injured the worse in the accident he's been going thru physical therapy and it has helped, but he's not regained his ability to walk long distances or stand for more then a little bit at a time. My first question.... My sons doctor offered a shot that he gets directly into the spine, kind of like the one you get during child birth...that will help with some of the pain while he's recovering. Did anyone ever get one of these? and was it helpful with the pain. He has a L5 injury. I know all the risks which doesn't seem to be too bad.. But I don't see any point in getting the shot and putting him at risk for ANYTHING unless it really works. So anyone sharing their experience with this would be greatly appreciated! my last question is..... My son switched doctors for no other reason then, the doc he had was a little older and was getting ready to retire he was not very cutting edge kind of old fashion (not that anything is wrong with that!) BUT... he was told that the insurace company (his own car insurance because this is PIP) called the doc's office before he even had his first visit with the ortho and put a little pressure on them.. telling them to treat him aggressively. What gives the insurance company the right to tell his own doctor how to treat him before he even met the patient? we found this VERY STRANGE! is it "normal" practice for an insurance adjuster to contact a docs office and tell them how to treat a patient? I'm concerned because I don't want my sons care compromised because an insurance company decides they are worried about paying out too much of his own PIP? as i'm typing this it seems insane... but its what happend! We have very good personal insurance.. and we would have NO PROBLEMO sticking it on our own medical insurance.. but I already know that if you tell them its an claim from a car accident they will not pay unless all other insurances are exhausted.... ugh.. very frustrated!
Thanks again a head of time for any great advice given! Take care
Peace!

Good morning Janice, great to hear from you!

Re; the epideral (dont' know if i spelled that right) I personally have really bad neck/and upper back trouble, it did not work out for me...HOWEVER, everyone I know that has had an epideral for lower back pain has been thrilled with the outcome!

''Agressively treat'' your son? What does that mean 'agressively'? Really I don't understand that term, does it just mean do whatever you can or what? I'd be pissed about that too...unless all they were trying to get across was that they would pay pretty much whatever...?... I'm sorry I don't understand what that means....explain that to me if you would Janice....
