Those, my friends...are discount health care plans. Cathy...please indicate to all who read your post the appropriate disclaimers including all upfront charges, and the standard "this is NOT health insurance" warning.

Buyer beware!

Hey ohio have you ever worked or been a member of AmeriPlan. Because I would really appreciate it if you would look into things before you start making assumptions about something that you really dont know what you are talking about. You should know more about discount health care plans before you post your comments.

If this is something that you are not interested in then I would really appreciate it if you would not post false comments.

THANK YOU

Let me quote WORD FOR WORD from the Ameriplan website:

"AmeriPlan Health® benefit programs are not insurance, nor are they an alternative to or substitution for insurance coverage. Since they are not health insurance, members must use AmeriPlan® providers and members are responsible for payment to the AmeriPlan® providers at point of service of discount health care fees incurred."

Also...there are "rewards of marketing"..which means that "agents" who sell these discount health care plans get rewarded for "recruiting" others to the business.

See Amri Plan

And...I have never seen so many complaints with the Ripoff Report (See below):

http://www.ripoffreport.com/searchresults.asp?q1=ALL&q4=&q6=&q3=&q2=&q7=&searchtype=0&submit2=Search!&q5=Ameriplan+

And Cathy...when one of your VERY FIRST POSTS is peddling stuff like that, what do you expect the response to be???

I think its always better to ask the experts :D

Ohio, how would we identify discount health care plans, especially when they are in disguised as health insurance?

Hi. Here are a few tips regarding discount health care plans :

*If there is an application fee, often, it is a discount card.

*If coverages are vague and indicate "all medical conditions are covered," that may be a discount card.

*Watch for the disclaimer at the bottom of the page.

*If the broker pressures you to buy, indicating that you need to act fast...run away!

*If you never heard of the company, it may be a discount health care plan.

If it sounds to good to be true it is not real health insurance.

Who are the people eligible for the discount card? What are the drawbacks of the discount health care plans ? When should I adopt a discount plan instead of the conventional heath plan?

Hi Dave,

If it sounds to good to be true it is not real health insurance.

Then you would not recommend people to buy discount health care plans right? Does this also imply that often times companies offering discount plans don't keep their promises afterwards?

The basic difference between the health insurance plans and the discount health care plans is that when the first compensates you for the medical expenses the second only avails discount on the medical cost.

The health discount plans are cheaper that the health plans. And, we all know that health plans are becoming more and more out of the reach of the people with the rising cost of the health care. This is one reason which has given a boost to the discount health plans business.

I agree with Dave, if you get a quote from the insurer that is lower than the market rate, beware, it could possibly be a discount plan and not a health plan.

Another difference between the discount plans and the health plan is that with the discount plans you are required to pay monthly fees instead of premium and receive discount ranging between 25% and 40% (depending upon the provider) on the listed doctors, dentists and drug stores.

Regards,
Juanita

Discount health care plans are possibly good for people with existing health conditions and otherwise uninsured by the health insurance carriers.

The discount plan providers will not ask you any health related questions. All the pre-existing conditions are acceptable by the discount plan insurer. Moreover, there is no waiting period.

A good discount plan may even include dental, vision and chiropractic plans in it without any extra cost.

However, the downside of the discount plan is that you have to bear in mind that you are required to pay for the services at the time of the need. The discount plan will only reduce the cost to some extent.
