What about alternative medicine?

by AnnaRaC » Sat Feb 28, 2009 10:26 pm

I've been having a lot of health problems lately. We've gone to the hospital and seen all kinds of doctors. We've done EKGs, CEGs, CAT scans, HIDA scans and blood tests. All the test come back "absolutely normal" or "within normal range." But what I've been feeling is anything but normal.

My husband and I have decided to pursue more "natural" treatments. Does health insurance cover things like nature paths, chiropractors, or acupuncturists?

Gary thanks so much!

"EVERYTHING, and ALL medical conditions are covered under your medical policy EXCEPT those conditions which are specifically EXCLUDED."

That's the best advise I could have gotten!

Hi Anna! Most likely the insurer wouldn’t cover the complementary and alternative treatments, also know as CAM. According to the insurer the benefits of these treatments are hard to establish on the health condition of the recipient. Hence, to get yourself covered for these alternative treatments you’re required to collect evidences of improvements in your medical condition.

However, not all policies have the same conditions. Hence, if you’re determined to receive certain alternative medication but aren’t getting coverage under your current health plan, you have to start searching.

hi, there is no specific answer to your question. Generally insurer wouldn’t cover the complementary and alternative treatments, but on the submission of the evidences that the tests that you had to ungergo are associated with the desiese or health problem you are currently suffering from, you can claim it.
There are variuous options rather various policies available in the market which would take care of all those expenditures that you have mentioned. But in those kind of plans the premium would fetch would be higher comparatively .
I would advise you to approach the insurance agent for this but also you need to study the policies in detail so as to be depenndable on it.
