An insurance policy of 25000$ is like loose change,As other people on this this thread have rightly pointed out .I think you should think of a much bigger amount for your health insurance policy

While deciding the coverage level the requirements need to be assessed properly. Whether or not the coverage level is sufficient for the insured depend upon several factors, some of these have been mentioned already by the other posters, and in the same line

The occupation of the applicant also plays an important role in determining the health insurance coverage required by him.

Some of the jobs put serious health hazards before the individual involved in the trade. And he/she need to maintain higher coverage level to address these issues.

The medical history of the family is another important aspect to look into. The history of hereditary diseases can significantly alter the health insurance needs.

Hi..I really do not understand the reason why we would only look for an insurance that covers us for the health problems that are directly caused out of an accident. Why don't we count upon the numerous after-effects that result even after months of trudging through painful treatments. Whenever we start looking at the realities in the bigger sense of the term, we'd probably get a proper estimation of the true worth of coverage that we need to protect our precious life.

If you want to save money on health insurance it is very simple...

Get an high deductible HSA type policy with a 2-8million max to take care of you if something awful happens and pay for the small things yourself
(preventive visits, urgent care, minor surgeries)

Buying health insurance to cover those things is like paying 30% more for your auto insurance to have oil changes and tire rotations done...

Along with the health policy, one should also consider purchasing disability insurance. The disability insurance policy compensates the insured for the lost income during the phase of disability. And, therefore, is also called the disability income insurance.

During the phase of critical medical treatment one may lose in terms of working hours and therefore his income. The health insurance will only cover the medical expenses, but to pay the other bills you are required the disability income plan. The OP should consider this option as well.

Well, the two main forms of disability insurance available are the short term disability and the long term disability policy.

Short term disability plan: as the name suggests the STD plan offers coverage for a short period. You can receive coverage for a maximum period of two years. However, it also has a shorter waiting period. For some plans the coverage may even start immediately.

Long term disability plan: both the waiting period and the coverage duration continue for a longer period of time. In case of permanent disability the policy holder may receive benefits for his entire life span.

I think it'd be a wise decision to include disability policy in the coverage package, since along with the rise in medical expenses the cost of living is also increasing with time.

Disability insurance is a great complement to a health insurance policy. We are working on ways to package health and disability policies in our agency to better serve our clients.

People tend to take care of things that are mandated by law and that are "in their face" disability insurance is neither. However it is an important protection that few people really appreciate the value of.

Uninsured medical bills and uninsured time lost from work are the two major reasons for foreclosure. This is true today even with the credit crisis. Disability insurance is a very important, but overlooked coverage and most of us should have more.
