I've heard of so many low cost health insurance options and now I'm getting tele-offers for some low cost health insurance riders. I'm sure you guys can tell me more about these riders. Is there anything called a term rider too?

IT'S B * * * S * * * ! ! ! !
PLEASE DON'T GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY MONEY!!

It may be "low cost" but the risk of losing your money and having nothing to show for it is HIGH.

Here's a clue. A "rider" is attached to an underlying policy. If you have no policy, how can you have a rider? There are life insurance "term riders" but you have to have a life insurance policy (or some other type of insurance perhaps) to be able to attach it to.

Just think of a horse and jockey (since that's where the term originated). The horse is one thing, but of what value is the jockey without the horse?

Why would you even consider doing insurance business with a telemarketer? Are telemarketers, in general, not known for frequently being scams?

It's one thing to be contacted by phone, and then have a meeting with an agent in person. But to never see anyone, and to not have requested the phone call in the first place . . . that's why we have the National Do Not Call list ( www.donotcall.gov ), and various state laws, as well.

As the child of American-born parents, whose own parents came to the US from Lithuania and Poland, I somehow manage to get emails that tell me I am the last known relative of some Black African tribal hero who left $12,000,000 in a private bank account in Nigeria. If I will only supply my own personal banking information to some "Barrister" or "Solicitor" in Nigeria, whom I have never seen or heard of before, I am assured that the money will be transferred to my account quickly. It's all safe, secure, and legitimate, I'm told, and overseen by the Government regulators in Nigeria.

Would you believe that? Although it's hard to imagine, some 30% of Nigeria's gross domestic product (GDP) comes from mail and Internet fraud. And their #1 source of GDP is OIL. What does that tell you about the stupidity of people around the world?

There are a proliferation of "discount" health plans riding the wave of Obamacare. They do nothing other than take your money (hundreds of dollars per month) and give you NOTHING except a list of doctors and providers who have promised to offer a discount to cash-paying customers who pay in full at the time service is rendered. Next to worthless.

Why? Guess what? If you just ask the doctor or hospital for a cash discount . . . you will get it. No need to pay $50-$100-$200 or more PER MONTH to find that out.

RIP OFFS . . . all of them!

On the other hand, insurance companies probably charge more, but you get something of value in the exchange. If you need health insurance, contact a local agent or broker to find out what is available in your community.

I'd agree that you need to consult with a local agent and should also study the financial strength of a carrier and their claims history before you sign-up. Your state doi will probably be able to provide you with this information.
