Where is your future son-in-law located? You are using the term cover in a way that few Americans do. Is he in England?

What do you suggest by permanent health insurance? does it mean that he only has a coverage through his employer, under which the coverage may cease once he leaves the job?

I guess if he is in a good health any private health insurance company will offer him a policy.

I agree with jeorge, if your son in law is in good health and has no pre-existing condition, he may not face problem in getting a health insurance policy from an individual provider.

Well, he should look for a coverage that will offer reimbursement for the basic health needs, such as

  • doctor's visits
  • prescription drugs
  • hospitalization/ nursing home expenses
  • surgeries and other treatments

Also don't forget to shop around to get a competitive rate Smile

Hi Kevin from Cambridge...I'd agree with Alston that its important for us to know which land your son-in-law belongs to..before we could comment upon the possibilities!

There are some insurance giants who would operate over most of the developed nations & cover key areas like your health, life, home etc.
But there are some of the better services who are specifically dedicated towards service people belonging to a particular geographical location or nation. UK has some successful brand-names too!

Permanent health insurance can be a private (individual) plan or a plan offered by an employer. Short-term plans are, to my knowledge, only offered to individuals.

Most short-term health insurance plans are limited to a six month duration. Some can be kept for 12 months. These plans are designed for people who are between jobs and for people who are waiting for their employer to cover them after their employment has started.
