Hey all, I'm new to the forum. I was recently laid off, and am looking for a reputable insurance agent in Portland, Oregon. My COBRA coverage lasts for awhile longer, and thanks to the Pres, I am no longer paying 100% of the premium, but I need to get something else lined up pretty quick. Especially if I can find something that is cheaper than my 35% COBRA responsibility. If anyone lives in the Portland Metro area and has someone they like, please drop me a line. Thanks! -J

Hi Jeff and welcome to the forum. I, too, live in sunny (well, today) Portland, Oregon!

As to your question, it looks as if even with the ESARA legislation (Economic Stimulus and Recovery Act) helping you pay your COBRA premiums, you're still looking for something less expensive. Do you mind telling me what your portion of the COBRA premium is?

Additionally, your current medical condition will play a great role in determining whether an individual medical-expense contract will do any great things for you. We have all sorts of rules regarding pre-existing conditions and other restrictive language that could easily affect your coverage in a new policy if one is issued.

This is something where I will need some more info before I can give you specific info back. So, would you give us some specific details as to your coverage basics in your COBRA plan and the amount of premium you're paying? Thanks!

Hi Jacob, there are few agencies which help would the laid off employees to find affordable health insurance, namely the Healthcare Advocacy and Patients Advocacy Foundation. You may contact these organizations if you can't find health coverage of your own.

Next, to get health insurance you should contact an agent in your locality. He would check for affordable health coverage for you.

Hope the information helps.

Poland?? Shocked

Jene, I think the OP is considering health options in Portland, Oregon, and not in Poland.

Where are you from, Poland?
