|
|
| I was laid off and my employer is suppose to pay the premium for the insurance for 6 months. They have defaulted and are now going out of business in a matter of days. I should have coverage until 5/1/09, but it canceled on 3/1/09 due to non payment. Meanwhile I have a surgery scheduled for april which the insurance has already approved. I can not afford to pay for this and I shouldn't have too. At the same time I have to have this now! |

| My recommendation is to consult an attorney on this matter. |

| That would be your best route. The insurance company will more than likely not have to cover this surgery if the policy was dropped due to non payment. You may be able to get your employer to be held responsible but it would take an atty to answer these questions. Did the employer release any company statements about the lack opf insurance? I believe they would have had to let any employees know this type of information. |

This is another aspect that the ongoing financial crunch has revealed. Many ,who were once cover under their employer provided health policies, are now outside the coverage net because of job cut and businesses closing.
OP has a long and hard battle ahead.

| Also you should refer your case to a big boss. Although it is hard time, for a single case (and also their fault) they may help some way. If you have co-operative society, they may avail funds through it by strong recommendation. This is off the way, but such things usually work, in a employee relationships. If it seems ignored, then you have stricter options as mentioned above. |

| Also check and see if your hospitol has any plans that will help with the bill. Some do. They are usually state or hospitol finded. |

| Hey Firey, I think you have suggested a very good option to the OP. Why don't you share more on this with the community? IMO many of us would be benefited from it. |

contact your attorney. it is highly probable that the insurance company will not pay out the coverage, because the company had stopped payment (dropped the policy). since the company is going out of business soon, it will be tough to get anything out of it.
as fireyone suggested, check with the hospital and see if they have any plans to aid you with the medical fees. this is a most unfortunate case, and you'll have to be prepared for a tough battle ahead. |
