Hi, can anyone give me a summary of Obama's health care plan. I don't need to know about the ongoing clash that's going over it. Mellisamoore

I could not agree more with insurance teach. This is a laugh. There are so many more things that could use some extra attention. They want to fix a plan because of how much the government pays out. They had a write up about that in the paper. Lets get rid of the scammers in the system including people who do not belong on welfare and social security, the places that double bill...there is so many. Do you relize how much alone that would save.
I do not know what kind of area everyone is from but here in my area they shoot out kids left and right, tax payers foot the bill. Every one is on Social security no matter what the age..for some it is a way of life. The same people on SS for back problems are the ones having 5 or 6 kids. Now how do you do that with back problems? This goverment needs to quit making free money and medical so easy to get.

FIREYONE...didn't you say you lived in PA ( I think you did)? Yep...I live in a small town, where people (exactly as FIREYONE descibed) are having children JUST to get the Welfare. I'm not saying that there isn't assistance out there to help,..but, taking advantage of it is another thing. 'Kids are having kids'.....it's really sad to see. I live in a low-income housing area (very nice apt complex) and there are families that live here that say "they have no food, or money, etc." However.....they're driving brand new cars, etc. (I think you get my point) Makes me sick!!

But guys, isn't it a good thing that the plan will cover

around 18% of our population who're below 65?

I guess they're not even in a position to go for the doctor.

It does have some good points. I am not arguing that. What I am talking about is they give money where it shouldn't be given and to those who can go out and work. The main problem with the government is they are not putting the money in the proper places. Those families recieving welfare and SS who do not need it are sucking up the money we could be offering to our senior citizens so they do not have to pay for their meds on such a limited budget. The ones who do not need it are better insured than our elderly society.

Most of my 'Clients' are the Elderly. A few of them can afford their Meds, Dr's appt, etc (however.....doing this on a VERY tight budget each month) and a few of them don't even have their Meds to take because they can't afford them. Some of the 'Clients' no longer 'qualify' for their Meds being taken care of......even on THEIR low income?! Their benfits are being cut, etc. However....I guess 18% of the Senior Citizens are better than none of them (the less of 'two evils'? I don't know).

Now, there's no one to think of the legal costs that have to be borne by the carrier.

There's no doubt that the plan could be expensive. How do we know the actual cost of a health care plan that's being run by the govt. ?

I guess that's a 'side' of it no one is really thinking about. ALOT of people are hoping Obama comes up with a 'good' Heathcare plan, but, they're probably not thinking of what they may have to pay for the plan. The gov is 'sweeping' so much 'under the rug' right now, they may NEVER say, until it's too late (lack of a better word..).

Thats just it you are not going to know. What I am waiting for is to see how much of this costs is going to fall back on the already over taxed middle class. Not only that I wonder how much of our own benefits we will lose. We have a pretty good health plan and if this new plan starts costing insurance companies and businesses more money then I would imagine they may raise deductibles and co pays for the ones insured already.
I think this health plan needs to be laid out in detail. Once it would pass you never know how much more later it will cost. Look at the income taxes. They recently wanted to raise them in my state. My view is once the government gets a hold of something it can get out of control.

This discussion is quite educative. I am living in USA for the past 7 years and it is frightening to stay here without health insurance.
In my view, any overhaul of health insurance will not be meaningful without addressing the prohibitive costs of health care. If a person goes to ER, the insurance company charges a $1000 upwards. The insurance companies will in turn charge us through premiums.
Why will a couple of pain killers administered in the hospital cost $10 when their market price is in cents?
Unless a thorough analysis is done to reduce the cost of health costs, reforming the health insurance does not have any meaning. There has to be reform on all fronts concerning the health care - tort reform, weeding out and punishing scammers, curtailing some social welfare measures etc.
