women are charged more in the early years of their life. they are more prone to health problems and yes pregnancy has something to do with it because even if you dont have maternity ins companies pay for complications due to the fact along with other common reproductive problems women face. cist, kidney infections etc. at about age fifty mens premiums start to actually get higher because women tend to be better about annual check ups than men. there for savings the ins company utilizes in women s intelligence on annual checkups is passed along in premium savings. most men don t go to the doctor for checkups we have to be broke or dying before we go

Hi there.

Women are charged more untill age 55 because they can get pregnant and have more things that can go wrong. The cross over for men to pay more is age 55. Group insurance is the great leveller. No pre-existings. Call me an I will explain more. (link removed by mod-lori..NO ''hawking'' of your wares in the threads PLEASE! )

The previous few posts are correct. At higher ages, the equation changes and men are charged more for health insurance.

Most Medicare Supplement companies for example charge men significantly higher premiums than women. The exception are the companies who have decided to charge the same premium for both. In those cases, it's arguable that their rates are slightly inflated for everyone to compensate.

The difference in premiums is caused by claims experience. That's it. Young women have higher morbidity and lower mortality. That means that they should be charged more for health (disability insurance also) insurance and less for life insurance.

Expert can you please explain this sentence in a broad manner. Its really a conclusive statement but if you can shed some light on the exact difference between morbidity and mortality then it will further simplify the topic. Arrow

i think that's women after a certain age are weaker than men and maybe they will be easier to catch illness than man. so they been charged more.

and there are much more parts on wemen's health than men have.

Any particular reason for that?

By the way, I think that even at the younger age men are at higher risk of heart realted deceases than the women of same age group. Are women charged more only because they are more vulnerable during the child bearing age or there are other factors too?
