We are considering a rental apartment for our stay in Alamosa east. Do we need insurance? _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

If you already have a homeowner's policy, you should be pretty well covered. Who ever is renting you the apartment probably has coverage as well. Should be very little to worry about unless we're talking about more than a brief vacation rental. _________________ CA-licensed P&C Broker-Agent and Life Agent. CA Insurance Lic #0596197. | If you don't have a HO policy I'd _highly_ recommend that you obtain a Renters Policy. Most so for the liability coverage then anything else. |

You WILL need coverage for your contents at this rental place. _________________ Can I say I’m working if I stare blankly at my computer all day? |

Again, there is nothing in the OP to indicate if this is a short-term vacation rental (1-2 weeks) or a long-term occupancy.
If it's a vacation rental, then there is nothing to worry about, essentially, if one has other personal coverage, such as a homeowner's, dwelling, or other renter's policy and/or applicable umbrella liability coverage of some sort. One's personal property is either covered or not when away from the insured's covered premises, according to the terms and limits of their policy and/or any riders (such as unscheduled personal property) or incorporated floaters (such as a personal articles floater).
If this is a long-term occupancy or lease, then an HO-4 renter's policy is in order. _________________ CA-licensed P&C Broker-Agent and Life Agent. CA Insurance Lic #0596197. insurancebydave must not have any experience as an insurance agent or broker. There is no insurance that protects everything. And most certainly not a renter's policy.
All policies have limitations as to both quantity and quality of coverage, and exclusions -- things that are never covered.
It is never safe to say, or believe, that everything is covered.

State Farm® renters insurance is for anyone who rents a home, be it a house or an apartment.
Renters insurance can protect your personal property against fire, theft and vandalism.
Renters insurance doesn't just help provide coverage for everyday necessities like furniture and clothes. It also helps protect theft-prone valuables like your laptop and bike - wherever you take them.

If you want to protect your belongings and you liability interests you should have renters insurance. Also your complex may make you get it. _________________ Brianna Baiocco

Don't be so quick to make such a statement. First, insurance does not "protect" the valuables themselves, it protects the insured from the financial loss associated with a loss to any of those things. The items you mention are also associated with limited coverages. _________________ CA-licensed P&C Broker-Agent and Life Agent. CA Insurance Lic #0596197. Hey Max, I know exactly what I am talking about. Of course there are limitations on persoanl property like electronics up tp $5000 and jewelry up to $500 unless floater added with appraisal.
Sounds like you need some students to teach! |

Maybe so, but how could you even begin to make a misleading statement such as a renter's policy "protects everything." Aside from the fact that an HO4 is a "named perils" policy, not an all risk policy, common items of personal property are routinely excluded, such as Animals, birds, and fish,, motorized vehicles, automobiles, motorcycles, motor scooters, go-carts, golf carts, and snowmobiles (however, wheelchairs, riding mowers, and riding snow blowers are covered),, aircraft and parts (however, model aircraft are covered),, Property of roomers or tenants unrelated to the insured,,
Business records kept at the insured’s property.
So, indeed, coverage for "everything" is just too broad a statement. _________________ CA-licensed P&C Broker-Agent and Life Agent. CA Insurance Lic #0596197. This is why when people have a loss for their home or auto and find out that something is not covered....they always state "I HAVE FULL COVERAGE..why is this not covered.
-cause you have an agent out there telling people they have the best coverage or a Gold Policy or full coverage. _________________ Can I say I’m working if I stare blankly at my computer all day? |

| Renter's insurance is very inexpensive and it is a must have item. It isn't worth the risk to go without it. |
