Hello Community!

I'm just throwing this out to the forum at large and am looking for a little feedback to see if this will fly. Your comments will be appreciated, no matter if a rookie or a veteran! So, help out your little ol' forum expert here, eh?

Think back to your licensing days, or if you're in the middle of this process, feel free to chime in.

One of the things that I do as part of my normal workday is prelicense education. My company is an industry leader in the field and we have an extraordinary program with unparalleled success rates. Here's my concern:
every state is going through conniption fits regarding prelicense training requirements, testing for the exams and the reporting requirements to various entities. This is a huge issue, and I'm in the middle of it due to my affiliation with various organizations that know what I do for a living! Arggghhhhh! Confused I should have listened when my momma told me not to mess with the NAIC! lol

So, what I'm asking is that you share your prelicense training "issues" and what could have made it easier/simpler/faster to get through what can be an insane process. Certain states have made it much more difficult than others and I'm at a loss to understand exactly why. Specifically:

-- Did you go to a lecture class, do it online or through another method?
-- What state are you in?
-- What license classes do you hold?
-- How long have you been licensed?
-- What barriers did you run into while trying to get your license? Employer pressure? Terrible educational provider? Cost? Tough exam? Bad instructor? Inadequate study materials? Not enough time to properly prepare? Anything would be helpful!
-- Anything you didn't have that you wish you would have had?

Anecdotal comments and insane ramblings are welcome. Incoherent responses will get an attempt to understand what the heck you said. I would like to get a dialogue going on this, and I need help.

So, forum members and guests- would ya help a guy out?

Thanks in advance

What factors would come to your mind first (regarding this)?
I think they've become more stringent to ensure safety and avoid fraudulent activities under the present day economic crisis. This would probably reduce the chances of unwanted settlements for them to some extent.

Tough exam- I'm not gonna buy this crap. One should only get licensed when he's living up to the present day industry standards. Pinkfloydfan

Hey Teach,

Not really sure what you're "fishing" for here, but I'll nibble a little bit.
I took my licensing exam in Tennessee after a five day boring, monotone, obnoxious(?), someone wake me up lecture training session. I would rather have had a root canal.

Anyway, after the "training", I sat for the exams: life, health, property and casualty.

The P&C exam was probably one of the most difficult exams I have taken, with the exception of CLU exams.

The instructor, even while very boring, taught me everything I needed to know to pass the exam (score of 70). I really didn't care about making a 95, because the other 25 points really didn't count for anything.

If I were an instructor, I would teach the class just enough to pass the exam and let them learn the rest in an on-the-job training environment.

Not, sure if I helped or not, but maybe I made at least a 70.
