Does anyone know if it is possible to get a claims adjuster license in TX if you have a felony?

I'm really not sure..may depend on what the felony was for. Someone will be along shortly and maybe have a clear answer for you. hang in there.

As fireyone mentioned, I think it really depends on the reason for the felony. I'm guessing that the application asks what the charge is and some charges would still allow for a license.

It will probaly take some looking into so call around and see what the requirements are and if you are able. Hopefully it won't hang over your head. Good luck and stop back and update us.

I'm not sure about insurance, but in the real estate world, I know someone who had a felony in his early twenties and had a new look on life and made a complete change and wanted to be a real estate agent. He stated he had to explain his situation and get references which he did from professionals in the community such as mortgage broker, reverend of his church, and many others who wrote great letters of recommendation. We are good friends and he is now a real estate broker and although he had been a real estate agent for years, he had to go through the same process to become a real estate broke. I would suggest contacting the department of insurance for your area and discussing the situation. They may have you go through the entire process and then do the same thing to you as they did to my friend, but don't give up. He did it not once, but twice and was approved. Good luck!

I'd go with the others…. the nature of the felony is the single most important determinant of whether it'll affect your career or not. However, a felony that has occurred long ago, and was of lesser degree, may not cloud your employment prospects.

The stat's department of insurance website may really come useful in providing you with the information. I'm aware that insurance companies do a background check before offering an appointment. And that background check involves crime history checking as well.

If the felony has ANYTHING to do with stealing or money I'd bet you're gonna have trouble...also not only the licensing but getting hired by some carriers...most of the larger carriers you have to pass a background check and they won't even hire you with a dui until a long long period of time as elapsed...if you'd like to discuss what your conviction was we may be able to assist you with better information.

I have hired a producer with one in the past. If it has any thing to do with money of honesty you will be denied. I prefore background check on all my employees with the state.
