After obtaining my license what is next?

I have my P & C lndependent license and i would like to be pointed in the right direction to start earing money. Do i need to work under an established company at the beginning? Do i need E & O insurance? Do you recommend obtaining a Life and Health license next?
Thank you,
Chris

Congratulations on becoming a licensed agent. With no prior experience in insurance and/or sales, you would be best advised to find an agency willing to train you. Most insurance companies will not appoint you as a "newbie" on your own due to your inexperience.

Property and casualty insurance is complex, and you most certainly need the protection of an E&O policy. Working for an agency, you will either have it provided at no cost or you will pay for it on your own.

As for a Life license, that's up to you. You cannot transact life or disability insurance without it.

Yeah, right. Getting your license is the easy part, as compared to finding an insurance company who will be willing to let you sell their policies.

Find a local agency first. The commissions might be low, but you'll get the basic training that you need to step into the industry.

Agree with most of what is said here. I would focus on P&C to cut your teeth before adding anything else. Ind or captive is the big decision. I suggest taking your time and doing some research to find the best fit for your personality.
