I am planning on becoming a captive agent with State Farm and I’ve already talked with a State Farm recruiter regarding this. What can I expect if I get in business with them? Does anybody have any advice regarding any pros and cons of becoming a State Farm agent? Like the likelihood of success and if the products are competitive enough to sail in the marketplace without a sumptuous ferry.

Sorry if I’ve been vague. But I really want to know every aspect before I change my career.

If you really want to dig the truth out, get help from the real agents who work there : National Association of State Farm Agents (NASFA)

Prospects with State Farm is quite good since it has the largest market share, but as a new agent it is going to be a bit difficult since your biggest competition is the fact that your company already holds the majority of the market.

Moreover, do you know how many SF agents are already operating in your town? Most cities have State Farm agents piled up and who are already in war with each other. You will be fighting for the same slice of pie as they are...

It really depends on what state you are in. If you live in Florida I would say it is not a good idea. State farm no longer insures Property in our state. The Agents are limited to what they can sell and rely heavily on Auto and Life Insurance. Both of which can be a very tough sell in today's market.

My father in law became a new SF agent in Alabama, He spent load son money on advertising and billboards. After one year they did not renew his contract. He is now a Independent Agent and likes it much better. He feels SF did not treat him fairly.

Best thing that ever happen to me was becoming a SF Agent. Just like everything else in life, you can be successful if you work at it. Money doesn't grow on tree's on less you water it! Most people think it will just come to them!
