How much do Allstate agents make?

Hi all,

I'm changing careers from being a real estate sales agent to an insurance sales agent, living in a major metropolitan city in Florida.

I have 10 years solid sales experience and abilities, am assertive and very personable. It is my understanding most agencies like to hire non-insurance exp people so they can train them "thier way". A local agent told me to expect $1000-$15000 monthly commissions in her newly established 6 person office after about 3 months of training, yet did not specify what base pay she would offer.

What kind of base pay can I expect with an abundance of sales abilities yet non insurance related?

Thanks alot!

How do people survive with only 10% commission? Does the agent receive renewal for life insurance policy and what's the % of the renewal? Thanks!

The small Allstate office up the road from me only has the agent and one producer/secretary and he pays 15.00 an hour base plus commission. so 28,800.00 yearly plus commission.

Hey Guys (& Gals). I Just signed up & just wanted to
say hi. A lot forums seem pretty "cliquey" for newbies
but this one does not. Hope to learn a lot while I am here!

As we all know that Insurance is a knowledge based field, and to become successful you need to have good understanding of insurance, besides having good sales abilities.

In the initial phase earnings may not be very handsome, however once you develope an uinderstanding of this business then cross selling and referrals help you to register more than linear growth.

For promotions, in addition to calling and personal meetings as suggested by other members on this forum, you may also utilize social media networks. In this connection if you require any suggestions, then please send me a PM.

Regards!

Agent sales is tough 10% commission requires a 5yr commitment from scratch. It is tooth and nail, but rewarding on the long haul. The agent will dedicate all to make it a go. As far as good help. Ha! Many CSR's will walk in and demand a fat paycheck, 3 weeks vacation and sit on their ass until the phone rings. Go work for a company with strong stabilty and benefits. Don't become a 100% commissioned sales agent.

I'll tell you from experience; Do not go to work for Allstate unless it is your only choice. They are a terrible company to work for and this is not sour grapes. They care only about Allstate and not about their agents or their salespeople..

I have family up in Michigan that work in this field and 2 of them are getting ready to retire. I have been thinking about leaving the railroad to persue a career in insurance. Would that be a good move as I have 2 kids to take care of.

Perhaps you should consult one of your two kids' Magic 8 Ball toy for an answer. How would you expect anyone here to know what your situation is, or what your capabilities are?

Can you handle not being paid a salary? Getting paid commissions only is like being unemployed every day until you make a sale. Does that disturb you? Have you asked your relatives in Michigan about their opinion?
