My friend, before you'd go for any such decision, I'd rather suggest you to know how it stands as being an independent or captive agent. It is also important for you to know how much it would cost to set up an agency through State Farm and Allstate. Also, I would like you to go through the following link-

There are pros and cons to both I'm sure. I'm captive (Allstate) and am glad I decided to go this way. Allstate pays for my advertising, my equipment and many of my supplies; to name just a few of the perks.

I would suggest talking to as many people as you can, both captive and independent and get their take on it.

Feel free to PM me any time.
