I currently have bad bad credit since I have lost my house. I have been unemployed for a year before I decided to pursue an insurance career. Now, I am considering filing for Bankruptcy would it be best to file it before I take my insurance test. Or will filling Bk affect my chances of getting my license?

Hello Andy,

I remember seeing a similar discussion on this board. I'd try to find it for you.

Meanwhile, filing bankruptcy might not affect your opportunities of getting license but it might affect your future employment possibilities.

Which state are you from? Have you checked with the state DOI site regarding your situation? Is filing BK your only option?

Thanks,
Rupert

Rupert is correct in saying that it affects your employment opportunities. Are you aware of how badly it's gonna affect your credit report?

It's gonnabe there for about 7-10 years.

If you have to file bankruptcy, meaning that there is absolutely no other way...then you need to do so after you get your license and after you have secured your contracts. However, it may still be difficult to get contracts because of poor credit. If you are about to file bankruptcy, I'm sure there are some delinquencies.

You cannot be discriminated against for the act of filing bankruptcy, but credit requirements are not considered discrimination (nor are criminal checks for that matter). I would see if there is any other way. It's actually better not to pay your bills now, and catch them up eventually. This is actually better and has less longterm effects than bankruptcy!
