Medicare Agents - What to do during Lock-In??

by Chris Bantly » Wed Mar 25, 2009 06:56 pm

I don't know how many agents on the forums are actively involved in Medicare Supplements and Medicare Advantage plans, but for those that are:

What do you plan to do during "lock-in"?

Do you simply focus on special needs plans and dual eligibles? Or do you focus on the sales of other products?

I spend a lot of time with my agents doing Medicare Education, and we have found various ways to branch out during the lock-in periods. All of the agents also offer Life Insurance, Long Term Care Insurance, Annuities, and EmerConnect.

What are some things other agents do during the off-season?

Hi..

At age 65, or otherwise known as "aging in", he qualifies for any medicare supplement regardless of health.

Do these supp. plans offer him the same benefits that come with MA plans at the age of 65? Again, I'd also love to know a bit about what you mean by 'regardless of health'?

The only thing that the MA plans may offer that is "better" is that some have vision and dental built in. Mind you, it's not much of a vision or dental plan, but it is a little something. They only added those in there because if they didn't they would have nothing to offer. It's "fluff and stuff". The problem with MA's is that they have co-pays, you never know when a doctor may or may not take them, they decide what they will and want pay for, etc.
When it comes to medicare supplements however it's quite a bit different. Medicare pays 80%, the supplement pays 20%...done!!
When I say regardless of health at age 65, someone could actually be aging in, on their death bed and get a supplement. You don't have to answer any health questions. It's guaranteed issue.

I was just kicked off MassHealth because our income is slightly higher this year. I need to get a medicare supplement plan that covers my deductibles, copays and whatever else. What is the best plan to get?
