Qualities needed to become an insurance agent

The most important trait in you that you need to become a good and successful insurance agent is your energy level. You might be amazed to read this but this thing is much more important and influential than all other factors like hard work and communication skills. Not even for a second in a day should your energy level should drop while you are on your duty. If you have a meeting with one of your prospects on a hot sunny day and you will be meeting him after a long journey, you should look as fresh as ever. Your potential customer should feel that you are attending him nicely. Listen to him very attentively and try to read his mind so that you can have some idea of what his weak points are. Once you get them, try to rotate the meeting around those points. Keep the energy level to the peak point and do not get annoyed or look disappointed if you fail to capitalize on the opportunity on the first time. Keep trying until he is ready to take your offer. Do this in such a manner so that your prospect should feel that you are not imposing anything on him and all talks are been done for his benefit only. Make him feel that his interest is important for you than your or your firm's interest.

GOOD LUCK

I have never focused on "making sales," which is one of the reasons that I don't feel as stressed as many insurance agents do. It truly comes out in my presentations that I have a strong desire to help my clients...and if there is nothing that I can do to accomplish this goal, I advise the client accordingly and disclose this!

I have advised a client in the past to go with a product that I could not offer, simply because it was the right thing to do. Honesty and Integrity will get you farther in your insurance career than any other trait!

Chris, you have certainly hit the nail on the head. Doing the right thing for the customer and not chasing checks is the key to longevity in the business. Do what you love and the money will come.

It is funny that I come across so many customers who couldnt even tell me what their former agent's name was. If you do the right thing for them they not only know you on a first name basis but they also tell their friends and family.

It all boils down to EARNING trust, not just gaining it.

Keep trying until he is ready to take your offer.

(A 'consumer's' point of view) If you keep 'pushing', the Consumer may walk away from you.

Make him feel that his interest is important for you than your or your firm's interest.

Hopefully the Agents 'tactic', to accomplish this, will be genuine.

I've been doing business with 'my' Insurance company, for about 7 years. (My 2 cents here..) I think they're very honest and upfront about issues. That's really a 'trait' ALL of Insurance Agents/Companies should have.

If you're gonna suggest the right kinda service to your prospects (irrespective of whether you're offering that service), it would help you earn fresh clients in the long run. Either such a prospect would buy another product from you quite easily or he would be grateful to convey your contact information to others who need you.

If you can effectively listen to your prospective clients effectively and ask them the right questions, you will find that you do not have to sell. Instead they will TELL YOU what they want and need,

I really agree with this 'train of thought'. The Consumer needs to come first..finding out what THEIR needs are, etc.
